About Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), a martial art that specializes primarily in the art of laying down and subduing opponents, developed in Brazil in the early 1900s based on the techniques of Japanese Jiu-Jitsu (specifically Kodokan Judo). One of its most famous founders was Elio Gracie of the Gracie family, who systematized the technique and spread it throughout the world.

BJJ is characterized by the use of techniques, positioning, and joint and choke techniques that allow smaller people to gain an advantage over larger opponents in order to overcome power differences. The main techniques include guard position, mount position, side control, and back control, and from these positions the aim is to subdue the opponent with joint and strangle techniques.

BJJ is also popular as a martial art that is easy for anyone to learn, regardless of age or gender, as technique and timing are more important than physical strength.
